On February 24, 2022, Olga and her family woke up at 5am to bombs going off
in their city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. For 8 days little Vera and Fedya, her husband and her mom lived in their apartment building’s basement, on its dirt floor while the city was being bombed. In order to cope, she drew and kept a diary.
On Day 9, she fled with her son and daughter by train to Lviv in western Ukraine with just backpacks, her phone, her diary, and a flash drive of her drawings. Although her husband accompanied them to the border, he, by law, remained behind in Ukraine. Alone in a new reality, they were helped onto a bus heading for Warsaw. A couple days later, they made it to Bulgaria where they live now.
These 16 drawings are some of the last drawings she did before the war with Russia. Join us as we venture into the gorgeous world she creates of fairies and angels, bountiful flowers, and the idea that ‘Beauty is always within us.’
